Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Nalaka Kaluwewa, has lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the inclusion of inappropriate content in the Year 6 educational module introduced under the ongoing education reforms.
Speaking to the media, Kaluwewa stated that the matter in question should not have been included in the Year 6 syllabus, adding that he suspects the inclusion was made by an external party as part of a conspiracy.
He said he has requested the CID to immediately launch an investigation to identify those responsible for carrying out what he described as a serious wrongdoing.
Kaluwewa further clarified that the material in question does not form part of the final approved print and emphasized that ultimate responsibility for the content lies with the Department of Education. He also noted that the publication concerned has not been legally issued.
The Ministry has assured that steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future once the investigation is concluded.
