Sri Lanka Police say a special security and traffic management plan will be implemented in and around Colombo tomorrow in view of New Year celebrations.

Police stated that around 1,200 police officers will be deployed for traffic control and security duties. A large influx of people and vehicles to Colombo is expected tomorrow as the public gathers to celebrate the New Year.

Accordingly, special traffic and security measures have been planned to minimize traffic congestion and ensure public safety.

Police noted that heavy traffic congestion may be experienced particularly in the police divisions of Fort, Pettah, Kompanna Veediya, Maradana, Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya, and Cinnamon Gardens.

However, normal traffic movement will be maintained in these areas, and special traffic plans will be enforced only when severe congestion occurs, based on the situation.

Police further emphasized that parking vehicles on pavements or obstructing main roads within Colombo city will not be permitted. Legal action will be taken against drivers who violate traffic laws in this manner, police added.
