The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the provision of tax concessions on imported dates that are to be distributed free of charge during the upcoming Ramadan fasting season.
Dates, which hold special significance for Muslims during Ramadan, are annually brought into the country as donations or gifts from diplomatic missions, organizations and individuals. These imports are carried out on a non-foreign exchange basis for the purpose of free distribution.
The Ramadan fasting season for 2026 is scheduled to begin on February 19 and conclude on March 21.
The decision follows a proposal presented by the Minister of Buddhism, Religious and Cultural Affairs, which received Cabinet approval to facilitate tax relief on dates imported specifically for free distribution during the holy month.
