The government has approved the appointment of a new Director General to the Sports Development Department, filling a vacancy that existed at present.
Following a call for applications, six candidates appeared for interviews to select a suitable individual for the post. Based on the recommendations of the interview panel, the Cabinet granted concurrence to the proposal submitted by the Minister of Youth Affairs.
Accordingly, S. Achchudan, a Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, has been appointed as Director General of the Sports Development Department with effect from January 1, 2026. He is currently serving as an Additional Commissioner of Elections at the Elections Commission.
