Sri Lankan authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to the country’s economic reform program supported by the International Monetary Fund’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF), despite the recent cyclone impacting the country.

According to official sources, the cyclone struck at a time when the Fifth Review under the EFF was nearing completion. However, due to the time required to properly assess the economic impact of the cyclone and to evaluate how the IMF-supported program can best assist Sri Lanka’s recovery and reconstruction efforts, the review has been deferred.

Authorities stated that discussions are ongoing to ensure that post-cyclone recovery measures align with the objectives and policy priorities of the IMF-supported reform program.

An IMF mission team is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in early 2026 to resume discussions related to the Fifth Review under the Extended Fund Facility.
