Train services on this route were suspended in late November after heavy rains caused damage to the railway track near the Kadupiti Oya bridge between the Kuda Wewa and Madampe railway stations, where sections of the track were washed away.
As a result of the disruption, five train sets had been stranded at the Halawatha railway station, and train operations were limited only up to Nattandiya during the repair period.
The Department of Railways stated in an official announcement that all necessary repair and restoration work has now been successfully completed.
Accordingly, several main office trains departing from Halawatha and operating towards Colombo Fort will resume service from today (29), with scheduled timings to be announced by the Railway Department.
