The Gampaha Magistrate’s Court has ordered that former Minister Douglas Devananda, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), be remanded until January 9, 2026.
The suspect was produced before Gampaha Additional Magistrate Padma Amaratunga today (28).
Devananda was arrested on December 26 in connection with an investigation conducted by the Homicide Investigation Division of the CID.
The arrest is linked to an inquiry into a firearm issued to him by the Sri Lanka Army in 2001 for personal use, which was recovered during the interrogation of organised criminal Makandure Madush in 2019.
Investigators confirmed that a serial number check revealed the firearm had been officially issued to Devananda. During questioning, he reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation as to how the weapon had gone missing, leading to his arrest.
