This was revealed in the latest data report released by India’s leading travel service provider, MakeMyTrip. The report is based on an analysis of bookings made by Indian travelers for the period from December 20, 2025, to January 2026, compared with the corresponding period last year.
According to the findings, Sri Lanka continues to attract strong interest as a preferred travel destination among Indian tourists. Thailand ranked first on the list, followed by the United Arab Emirates in second place, while Sri Lanka claimed the third spot.
Vietnam recorded a notable rise, moving from seventh position last year to fourth place this year. Other popular destinations among Indian travelers include Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Hong Kong.
Tourism industry experts attribute Sri Lanka’s growing popularity to its natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and close geographical proximity to India, which together make the island an appealing and convenient holiday destination.
