The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) has urged the public to exercise caution when making online money transfers for disaster relief efforts, warning of an increase in cyber scams.

SLCERT said several fake websites created to defraud donors of relief funds have been identified and subsequently shut down. The agency emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity of websites and bank details before making any online donations.

In addition, SLCERT cautioned the public against fraudulent phone calls and text messages claiming prize winnings during the festive season. Such messages are aimed at deceiving individuals into sharing personal or financial information.

The public has been advised not to respond to suspicious messages, avoid clicking on unknown links, and report any suspected cyber fraud to SLCERT for further investigation.
