Sri Lanka has warmly welcomed Air Astana with the launch of a new weekly charter flight service from Kazakhstan, marking a significant milestone in strengthening tourism connectivity between the two countries.

The inaugural flight, which arrived today, was accorded a ceremonial water cannon salute organized by Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd. (AASL) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

Adding to the festive atmosphere, passengers were treated to a traditional Kandyan dance performance, arranged by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, showcasing the island’s rich cultural heritage.

Officials noted that the commencement of this charter service is expected to boost tourist arrivals from Central Asia and further position Sri Lanka as a preferred holiday destination. BIA expressed its commitment to strengthening tourism ties with Kazakhstan and said it looks forward to welcoming more travellers to the “Paradise Island” in the coming months.

The new Air Astana service is seen as a positive step toward expanding Sri Lanka’s global tourism footprint and enhancing air connectivity to emerging markets.
