A media briefing to raise awareness about the One Million Volunteers programme implemented by the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) was held yesterday (26) at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The planned activities include the renovation of schools affected by recent disasters, cleaning of irrigation systems and roads, conducting recreational programmes for people residing in safety centres, and distributing essential items to displaced communities and children living in those centres.

Addressing the media, Chairman of the National Youth Services Council and Director General of Youth Affairs in Sri Lanka, Attorney-at-Law Supun Wijerathna, stated that the One Million Volunteers programme was launched recently with a volunteer initiative in the Chilaw area, and that the Badulla District programme marks its second phase.

He further noted that nearly 1,000 volunteer youth are expected to participate in the Badulla District initiatives. The Chairman also emphasized that registration for the One Million Volunteers programme is currently open, and interested individuals can register by visiting the official website volunteer.nysc.lk.
