According to police, investigations were initiated after the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Kandy Division was informed of a threatening email received today (26). The email, sent to the official address of the Kandy District Secretary, alleged that bombs had been concealed at five locations within the Secretariat.
Following the alert, a team from the Kandy Police Station launched inquiries and began a comprehensive search of the premises. Personnel from the Police Kennels Division, the Police Special Task Force Bomb Disposal Unit, and the Army Bomb Disposal Unit were also deployed to assist in the operation.
Police said search operations are continuing, while further investigations are underway to verify the authenticity of the threat and trace the source of the email.
