Routine operations at the Kandy Government Agent’s (GA) Office were disrupted today after authorities received an anonymous email warning of a bomb explosion, prompting an emergency security response.

Police said the alert was received through the 119 emergency hotline after officials reported two threatening emails. The first email warned of a bomb at the premises, while a subsequent message claimed the device would explode at around 4.00 p.m.

Following the threat, the entire building was cleared, and employees were instructed to leave the premises after being asked to apply for leave. Members of the public who were inside the office at the time were also evacuated.

The police bomb disposal unit was deployed to conduct a detailed search of the premises. An official from the GA’s Office said the email was traced to a source in Chennai.

Kandy police have initiated investigations to identify those responsible for the hoax threat. No suspicious objects or explosive devices have been detected so far, police confirmed.
