The Somawathiya–Sungavil road, which was closed to traffic due to flooding, has been reopened for vehicular movement after eight days.
The road had been submerged following heavy rainfall experienced in the Polonnaruwa District over the past several days. As a result, police had temporarily suspended traffic along the route for safety reasons.
With floodwaters now receding, authorities reopened the road yesterday (25) afternoon. The route provides access to the sacred Somawathiya Temple, and normal traffic movement has since been restored.
