Speaking in a special statement on concerns over government interference in independent media, Premadasa said the authorities are taking steps to implement a “police state” by restricting the public’s right to know the truth. He emphasized that safeguarding democracy requires protecting media freedom and ensuring an independent media is given space, which in turn strengthens transparency and inclusivity.
