According to the Railways Department, several special train journeys will operate under a new timetable, except on Wednesdays for selected services. All these services will be operated using Class S14 power sets.

Badulla – Ambewela Special Udarata Menike (SPL 1016)
Operating from December 20, 2025, except Wednesdays
Departure from Badulla: 9.00 a.m.
Arrival at Ambewela: 11.47 a.m.
Badulla – Ambewela Special Podi Menike (SPL 1006)
Operating daily from December 20, 2025
Departure from Badulla: 3.00 p.m.
Arrival at Ambewela: 5.47 p.m.
Ambewela – Badulla Special Podi Menike (SPL 1005)
Operating daily from December 20, 2025
Departure from Ambewela: 9.30 a.m.
Arrival at Badulla: 12.16 p.m.
Ambewela – Badulla Special Udarata Menike (SPL 1015)
Operating from December 20, 2025, except Wednesdays
Departure from Ambewela: 3.00 p.m.
Arrival at Badulla: 5.46 p.m.
The trains will stop at key stations including Pattipola, Ohiya, Idalgashinna, Haputale, Diyatalawa, Bandarawela, Ella, Demodara, Uduwara, and Hali Ela.
The Department of Railways further stated that reserved seat tickets for all these special train services will be made available shortly.
These services are expected to greatly benefit daily commuters as well as local and foreign tourists traveling along the scenic Upcountry railway line.
