Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake has prepared its runway for an emergency landing following a reported landing gear malfunction on a Turkish Airlines flight, airport officials said.

The Airbus A330, operating flight TK-733 to Istanbul, developed the technical issue shortly after take-off with 202 passengers and 10 crew members on board. As a precaution, the pilot dumped fuel over the sea to reduce risks during landing.

At the time of reporting, the aircraft was flying at around 4,000 feet over the Chilaw area. The flight is expected to attempt an emergency landing at BIA around midnight, with fire trucks, ambulances, and emergency response teams standing by.
