The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has decided to grant special leave to public officers who were unable to report to duty due to disaster-related conditions.

Accordingly, a circular has been issued by the Ministry outlining the provisions for granting special leave to officers affected by floods and landslides that disrupted access to their workplaces.

Public officers seeking this special leave are required to submit a request certified by the relevant Grama Niladhari and endorsed by the Divisional Secretary, clearly stating the reasons for their inability to report to work. This recommendation must be forwarded to the head of the respective institution.

The circular further states that approval for special leave should be granted only if the head of the institution is personally satisfied with the validity of the request. Once approved, special leave may be granted for the number of days the officer was unable to report to duty due to the disaster.
