The Coconut Cultivation Board has set 25 December as the deadline for farmers to report coconut trees destroyed by Cyclone Ditwah. The move comes as authorities work to finalize compensation for affected farmers.
Dr. Sunimal Jayakody, Chairman of the Board, said that many reports have already been submitted through local Grama Niladharis, reflecting extensive damage across the island. He stressed that accurate data is crucial to determine the exact subsidy for destroyed trees.
While a Rs. 10,000 per tree compensation has been proposed, Dr. Jayakody confirmed that the final decision will be made after reviewing all submissions. The Board urged farmers to submit their reports promptly to ensure timely assistance.
