Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, said that an additional 2,500 police personnel have been deployed in the Western Province alone, following a special directive issued by the Inspector General of Police to all police stations.
He said the enhanced security arrangements focus on ensuring safety in urban areas, religious places and shopping complexes where large numbers of people are expected to gather during the festive period.
ASP Wootler urged the public to remain vigilant, advising motorists not to leave valuables or money inside parked vehicles or motorcycles. He also requested the public to immediately inform the nearest police officer if they notice any suspicious individuals or activities.
He further noted that a large number of police officers in civilian attire, along with intelligence officers, will be deployed to support and protect the public. The Sri Lanka Police, Special Task Force (STF) and the Tri-Forces are fully prepared to ensure public safety throughout the festive season, he added.
