During the meeting, Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath Dassanayake was appointed as the new National Organizer of the SLFP. The committee also unanimously approved the appointment of President’s Counsel Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe as a Senior Vice Chairman of the party.
Addressing the gathering, SLFP Chairman Nimal Siripala de Silva announced that party membership would be open to anyone above the age of 16. He further stated that a new draft constitution has been prepared to limit the extensive powers previously vested in the party chairman.
