A 28-year-old man has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in possession of 2.3 kilograms of heroin, police said.
The suspect was taken into custody by officers of the Katunayake Airport Police Narcotics Bureau after arriving in Sri Lanka from Malaysia. During an inspection, the narcotics were found in his bag.
Police said the arrested individual is a resident of Rambukkana. Further investigations are being conducted into the incident.
The suspect is to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court, where police are expected to seek an order to detain him for further questioning.
