The Colombo High Court has directed the Bribery Commission to call the case filed against former Finance Minister and MP Ravi Karunayake and Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. Director Arjun Aloysius on January 16 for the continuation of evidence.

The case was taken up today (12) before High Court Judge Mohamed Mihal, where the prosecution’s evidence was recorded. The judge then adjourned the further evidence hearing until January 16.

According to the Bribery Commission, Karunayake—who served as Finance Minister from 12 February 2016 to 30 September 2016—is charged under Section 19(c) of the Bribery Act for residing in an apartment obtained through a private company in which the second defendant, Arjun Aloysius, is a director.

Aloysius has been indicted for aiding and abetting the alleged offence.
