According to Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwawa, any organization, group, or individual is welcome to contribute to the nationwide school rehabilitation efforts. He noted that all required coordination for such contributions will be handled directly through the Ministry of Education.
For inquiries, the public can contact the Ministry via the 1988 hotline. Two dedicated WhatsApp numbers — 07765 823 65 and 071 99 323 25 — have also been introduced for further communication related to the programme.
The Ministry’s Disaster Operations Committee will oversee and coordinate all activities under the initiative.
A total of more than 1,506 schools across the island have been reported damaged.
Northern Province recorded the highest number with 330 schools affected.
Western Province reported 266 damaged schools.
Eastern Province recorded 221.
Central and North Western Provinces each reported 136 damaged schools.
Sabaragamuwa Province reported 115.
Uva Province recorded 129 damaged schools.
The Ministry emphasises that the Prathishtha programme aims to accelerate the recovery of the national education system and ensure the safe reopening of all affected schools.
