The Sri Lanka Navy has successfully carried out a vital relief operation using the Kotmale Reservoir as a transport route, delivering essential supplies to communities affected by recent adverse weather conditions.

According to Navy sources, specialised teams deployed naval craft across the reservoir to distribute food packs, drinking water, and other essential items to residents who had become isolated due to floods and landslides in the surrounding areas.

The operation was launched in coordination with local authorities and disaster management units, ensuring rapid delivery of aid to families facing shortages. Navy personnel also assessed the situation on the ground to support any additional rescue or relief efforts that may be required.

Authorities commend the Navy’s swift response and the strategic use of the reservoir, which significantly reduced travel time and allowed supplies to reach remote areas otherwise inaccessible due to damaged road networks.

Relief efforts are continuing as weather conditions improve, with military and civilian teams collaborating to support affected communities across the region.
