The third reading of the 2026 Budget is scheduled to be held today (05) at 6.00 pm in Parliament.

Today's sittings will begin at 9.00 am, with the vote on the third reading set to take place at the conclusion of the debate at 6.00 pm.

The second reading of the Appropriation Bill for 2026 was presented on November 7 by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. The second reading debate concluded on November 14, with the budget passed by a majority vote.

A total of 160 MPs voted in favour, 42 voted against, and 8 abstained, giving the government a majority of 118 votes.

Although 17 days were allocated for the third reading debate, several sittings were adjourned due to adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Communications Department said that a supplementary estimate has been submitted to provide relief for those affected by the severe weather.
