Meetiyagoda Police have arrested a contract killer believed to be connected to underworld figure Karandeniya Sudda, while he was preparing to carry out an assassination.
The suspect, a 36-year-old resident of Valachchenai, is a former LTTE member who, according to police investigations, had been affiliated with the Karuna faction during the conflict period.
Police are also searching for a foreign-made revolver that was reportedly in the suspect’s possession at the time of arrest but has not yet been recovered.
Investigations reveal that the suspect previously served an 11-year prison sentence at Galle Prison over a robbery incident, during which time he is said to have come into contact with Karandeniya Sudda. Police further state that Sudda continues to make direct phone calls to the suspect.
