The Ministry of Finance has approved an increase in financial assistance for cleaning homes and properties affected by recent floods, raising the amount from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 25,000.
According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the decision aims to expedite the recovery process for communities impacted by the Ditwah cyclone.
In a special statement issued today, Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development, said the move follows a request from the Disaster Management Centre and was made in line with the President’s directives.
A total of Rs. 7.5 billion has been allocated for the enhanced assistance package, drawn from the Rs. 30 billion already set aside in the national budget for disaster management.
Dr. Suriyapperuma added that improved financial management within the Treasury and ongoing anti-corruption measures have helped facilitate the expansion of the programme. He noted that the increased funding will play a crucial role in speeding up the restoration of normal life and livelihoods in the affected regions.
