Sri Lanka continues to battle one of the worst weather-related disasters in recent years, with the official incident summary confirming 56 deaths and 21 people still missing as of today. The ongoing heavy rainfall, strong winds and resulting floods and landslides have caused extensive damage across multiple districts, affecting tens of thousands of residents.

According to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), at least 14 individuals have been injured, while 12,313 families a total of 43,991 people have been impacted by the adverse weather conditions.

Authorities report that 4 houses have been completely destroyed, with 666 partially damaged, leaving many families in urgent need of support and shelter. Currently, 12 families comprising 3,684 individuals are housed in safe shelters established in affected areas.

In addition, 1,097 families (3,731 individuals) have sought refuge with relatives after being forced to evacuate their homes due to unsafe conditions.

Disaster response teams, military personnel and emergency services continue rescue and relief operations, while officials urge the public to remain vigilant as the unstable weather pattern persists.
