A bus carrying 23 passengers was caught in floodwaters this morning at Kumbukkana on the Monaragala-Colombo main road, but all those on board were rescued safely, police said.

The incident occurred when the bus, travelling from Monaragala to Colombo, attempted to cross a bridge near the Ranga Hotel, where water levels had risen to nearly six feet.

With the assistance of nearby residents using tractors, the bus was pulled back to safety. Authorities confirmed that all 23 passengers escaped unharmed.
