A high flood risk has been issued for several low-lying areas along the Kumbukkan Oya, following heavy rainfall received in the basin’s catchment areas since last night.

According to disaster management authorities, flooding is likely within the next 12 hours in areas adjacent to the river, including Nakkala, Kumbukkana and Maduruketiya Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Moneragala Divisional Secretariat, as well as Okkampitiya and Gaminipura Grama Niladhari Divisions under the Buttala Divisional Secretariat.

Residents living close to the Kumbukkan Oya, along with drivers and passengers travelling through these locations, have been urged to remain highly vigilant and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

Authorities have also called on relevant disaster management teams to take immediate and appropriate action to mitigate the potential impact of the impending flood situation.
