Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (26) ordered the release of a suspect accused of defrauding Dr. Shafi by promising to procure a luxury vehicle valued at Rs. 159 million.
The suspect, who was produced before court by the Fraud Investigation Bureau, had allegedly collected more than Rs. 150,000 on several occasions, claiming he could obtain a luxury vehicle that had been auctioned at the U.S. Embassy.
He had been in remand custody until today. After reviewing the facts submitted by the investigators, the Magistrate released the suspect on personal bail of Rs. 500,000.
