The Disaster Management Center of the Colombo District reports that 221 major disaster-prone locations have been identified across the district’s 13 Divisional Secretariat (DS) divisions.

According to Assistant Director S. Dissanayake, Maharagama has been recorded as the highest-risk DS area, with 56 identified disaster locations. In contrast, Kaduwela poses the lowest risk, with just one identified location.

The distribution of disaster-prone sites is as follows:

  • Maharagama – 56
  • Kolonnawa – 39
  • Dehiwala – 30
  • Kotte – 32
  • Homagama – 17
  • Colombo – 15
  • Ratmalana – 11
  • Padukka – 04
  • Seethawaka – 07
  • Moratuwa – 04
  • Thimbirigasyaya – 03
  • Kesbewa – 02
  • Kaduwela – 01

Dissanayake stated that comprehensive plans are being developed to address these high-risk areas and implement measures to safeguard residents from potential disasters.
