The Department of Meteorology warns that the low-pressure area located to the southeast of Sri Lanka is expected to move north-northwest and gradually intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours.

As a result, widespread rainy and windy conditions are forecast across the island over the coming days.

According to the Met Department, cloudy skies will prevail over most parts of the country, with showers or thundershowers occurring at times.

Heavy Rainfall Expected

Very heavy rainfall exceeding 150 mm is likely in the Eastern, Central, North-Central, and Uva Provinces.

Heavy showers above 100 mm may occur in several other areas of the island.

Strong winds between 50–60 kmph are expected at times over many parts of the country.

Authorities urge the public to take necessary safety measures to minimize potential damage caused by strong winds and lightning. The public is further advised to remain alert to updated warnings and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.
