The seventh meeting of the BIMSTEC Task Force on Traditional Medicine (BTFTM) commenced this morning (25) in Wattala, Sri Lanka, marking another significant milestone in strengthening regional cooperation in traditional and indigenous medical systems.

The session officially began at 9:00 AM, with Deputy Health Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni inaugurating the event. The meeting brings together delegates, experts, and policymakers from BIMSTEC member countries to discuss collaborative strategies aimed at integrating traditional medicine into modern healthcare structures.

The BTFTM operates under the Science, Technology, and Innovation sector of BIMSTEC, focusing on the development, promotion, and standardization of indigenous medical systems across the region.

Traditional medicine continues to play an important role within BIMSTEC nations, representing centuries-old heritage, healing practices, and community-based medical knowledge. Officials noted that this meeting will serve as a platform to enhance cooperation, exchange research, and establish frameworks to strengthen traditional healthcare services regionally.

The sessions will continue with technical discussions and policy deliberations aimed at shaping the future of traditional medicine within the BIMSTEC bloc.
