Level 3 red alert issued for landslide evacuation in multiple districts

A Level Three Red Alert landslide evacuation warning has been issued for the Haguranketha and Walapane Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Nuwara Eliya District, as well as the Ududumbara Divisional Secretariat Division in the Kandy District, following continuous heavy rainfall in these areas.

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has urged residents living in identified landslide-prone areas to evacuate immediately and move to safer locations as instructed by authorities.

Meanwhile, landslide alerts remain in force across 12 districts, with Level Two and Level One warnings issued as follows:

According to the Department of Meteorology, very heavy rainfall exceeding 150 mm is expected today in the Eastern, Central, and Uva Provinces, as well as the Polonnaruwa District. Other areas may experience rainfall above 100 mm, further increasing the risk of floods and landslides.

Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant, follow official safety instructions, and stay updated with the latest weather and landslide warnings.
