The National Ayurvedic Medicines Regulatory Authority (NAMR) has revealed that around 10 factories across the country are producing Madana Modaka illegally, exceeding legal limits on hemp content.
Officials said these manufacturers exploit their annual registration certificates from the Ayurvedic Department, claiming to follow proper procedures while secretly producing the medicine in violation of regulations.
NAMR said that authentic Madana Modaka must adhere strictly to the approved recipe and be prepared under the supervision of an Ayurvedic Health Medical Officer. Despite this, many manufacturers continue to sell unauthorized products, some of which are falsely marketed as aphrodisiacs.
Scientific tests confirm that correctly prepared Madana Modaka is non-intoxicating and primarily used to treat indigestion in children. The authority also clarified that possessing legally made Madana Modaka is not a crime.
The NAMR has warned that it will take strict action against violators, including planned raids on illegal production sites in the near future.
