Chief of the Army Staff of India, General Upendra Dwivedi, is scheduled to undertake a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka from December 1–2, marking a significant milestone in the expanding defence cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

The visit comes at a time when high-level military engagements between India and Sri Lanka continue to rise, underscoring deepening mutual trust, strategic alignment and enhanced operational collaboration.

In a statement, the Indian Army spokesperson said the visit aims to reinforce India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy, focusing on partnership, stability and cooperation with Sri Lanka. The statement further highlighted India’s role as a reliable security partner committed to assisting Sri Lanka in capability development and capacity enhancement across multiple defence sectors.

General Dwivedi’s visit is expected to further strengthen Army-to-Army relations through increased opportunities for training, professional exchanges, joint exercises and dialogue on operational best practices, contributing to long-term regional security and defence collaboration.
