The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) has unveiled plans for its 75th anniversary celebrations, centered on the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2025, which will see eight warships from seven nations—Bangladesh, India, Iran, Maldives, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Russia—joining the Sri Lanka Navy fleet. The event, themed “Sailing Strong Together,” aims to showcase Sri Lanka’s naval traditions while promoting international maritime cooperation.

During a media briefing at the Department of Government Information, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda outlined a series of activities blending tradition, social initiatives, and environmental projects. The IFR 2025 is scheduled for 30 November, preceded by collaborative programmes starting 28 November, involving foreign crews, the Sri Lanka Navy, Sister Services, and Police personnel.

Vice Admiral Banagoda emphasized Sri Lanka’s commitment to global maritime cooperation, highlighting the success of the Galle Dialogue International Maritime Conference 2025. He expressed confidence that the participation of foreign warships would strengthen maritime relations, contribute to regional peace and stability in the Indian Ocean, and enhance Sri Lanka’s role as a regional maritime partner.

Rear Admiral Damian Fernando, Chief of Staff of the Navy, outlined additional 75th-anniversary events starting 9 December, including war hero commemorations, multi-religious ceremonies, social welfare initiatives, and environmental programmes. A special first-day cover and commemorative medal will also mark the milestone.

Rear Admiral Harsha De Silva, Director General Operations, acknowledged contributions from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka Police, Ports Authority, Customs Department, and Colombo Municipal Council in organizing the IFR.

Captain Athula Jayaweera, Director Naval Operations, provided details on public programmes, including a beach cleanup at Galle Face, sports activities, a Food Gala with international cuisines, a band and cultural show, and a colorful City Parade along Galle Face Road on 29 November featuring both Sri Lanka and foreign naval personnel.
