A new gazette will be issued making it compulsory for all buses, including long-distance passenger transport buses, to obtain a basic roadworthiness certificate from January 1, Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake announced today.
Addressing the media at the Makumbura Multimodal Centre (MMC), the Minister said the roadworthiness test must be conducted annually, and each bus will be required to hold a valid certificate.
He urged bus owners to have their vehicles inspected at certified testing centres, emphasising that the certificate will be crucial during police investigations in the event of accidents or other road incidents.
