The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued landslide early warnings for 17 Divisional Secretariat areas in the Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, and Matale districts due to the prevailing heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.

According to the NBRO, Level 2 (Alert) warnings have been issued for the Yatinuwara, Pathahewaheta, and Gangawata Korale Divisional Secretariat areas in the Kandy District. Residents in these areas are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as the risk of landslides remains elevated.

Meanwhile, Level 1 (Watch) warnings have been issued for the following areas:

Nuwara Eliya District: Ambagamuwa, Kotmale

Kandy District: Udunuwara, Udapalatha, Thumpane, Ududumbara, Ganga Ihala Korale, Pasbage Korale, Pathadumbara, Panvila

Matale District: Ambanganga Korale, Rattota, Naula, Yatawatta

The NBRO advises residents living in the warned areas to stay alert for early signs of landslides, such as cracks in walls or the ground, leaning trees, unusual sounds, or sudden changes in water flow.

Authorities further urge the public to follow safety instructions, avoid high-risk zones, and be prepared to evacuate if necessary, as heavy rainfall is expected to continue.
