The National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) has urged the public to report any pharmacies that sell medicines above their approved Maximum Retail Prices (MRP).

According to the NMRA, a total of 350 essential medications have been brought under MRP regulations, including drugs used to treat cancer, hypertension, and other critical conditions.

NMRA Chairman Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama said that prices of several medicines have recently been reduced by varying percentages with some reductions reaching up to 40%. He emphasised that selling medicines above the regulated price is a punishable offense, and strict action will be taken against violators.

The authority is encouraging the public to remain vigilant and provide information on pharmacies that disregard the pricing regulations, in order to ensure fair access to essential medicines for all citizens.
