A list of 350 medicines with newly revised maximum retail prices has been submitted to Parliament, with several major price reductions recorded—particularly for cancer medications.

Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), said the price reductions vary widely, ranging from 40 percent to as high as Rs. 15,667.

Among the key reductions:

  • Faclitaxel, used for cancer treatment, has decreased by Rs. 15,667.
  • Adlimumab has been reduced by Rs. 33,783.
  • Cesatri Curium Besilate has dropped by Rs. 547.
  • Losartan Potassium, a commonly used drug for high blood pressure, has been reduced by Rs. 3.
  • Mebendazole, used to treat parasitic infections, has seen a reduction of Rs. 33.

Officials say the updated price list aims to reduce the financial burden on patients while ensuring accessibility to essential medicines.
