As a result, three spill gates of the Alikota Ara reservoir have been opened by eight inches each. This has led to a rapid rise in the water level of the Kirindi Oya downstream, according to local officials.
With the increasing water levels, the District Disaster Management Unit has urged residents living along both sides of the Kirindi Oya, as well as those using the river, to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
