The Department of Railways announced that train operations along the Coastal Line have returned to normal.

Train services were disrupted after a slow train travelling from Matara to Colombo Maradana derailed between the Kamburugamuwa and Weligama railway stations at around 2.05 p.m. on the 21st.

As a result, trains on the Coastal Line operated only up to Weligama on the 21st and 22nd. The disruption continued when another train bound for Maradana experienced a subsequent derailment between the same two stations.

Railway authorities confirmed that repairs have been completed and full operations on the Coastal Line were restored today.
