The prevailing showery weather over Sri Lanka is expected to continue during the coming days, the Department of Meteorology announced today.
According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern and North-Central Provinces as well as in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts. Other areas of the island are likely to experience showers after 1.00 p.m.
The Department further warned of heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, Northern and Southern Provinces, and in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Fairly heavy falls of around 75 mm are possible elsewhere.
Residents are urged to take precautions against strong winds and lightning, particularly during thundershowers.

A low-pressure area has developed over the South Andaman Sea and is expected to move west-northwest, potentially intensifying into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by 24 November 2025. Naval and fishing communities are advised to remain alert to upcoming forecasts and updates from the Department of Meteorology.
Rain & Winds:
Showers or thundershowers are likely in several sea areas around the island. Winds will be north-easterly or variable, with speeds between 20–30 km/h, increasing to 40 km/h at times from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar.
Sea Conditions:
The sea areas in the above stretch may become moderate at times, while other areas are expected to remain slight.
However, strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur temporarily during thundershowers.
