The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has cautioned that it is prepared to escalate its ongoing trade union action if the government fails to provide fair and concrete solutions to its demands.
Issuing an official statement, the GMOA announced that a final decision regarding the intensification of trade union action will be taken at its central committee meeting scheduled for November 26.
According to the association, during discussions held with President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Monday (17), the President had agreed in principle to the proposals presented by the GMOA. However, the union has insisted that a clear, actionable program—with a defined timeline—must be announced to ensure implementation.
The GMOA further noted that although a separate meeting was held with the Minister of Health, no credible solutions or structured plan has yet been presented to safeguard the welfare of the country’s doctors or the broader health service.
The union stated that without a transparent roadmap from the government, it will have no choice but to intensify its trade union measures in the coming days.
