The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (21) issued a warrant to arrest and produce Mujeed Ur Rehman, a Pakistani national and former team manager of the Dambulla Thunders, over allegations of aiding and abetting match-fixing during the 2024 Lanka Premier League (LPL).
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order following a request by the Sports Corruption Investigation Unit. The court had earlier issued notice for Rehman to appear before the unit, but he had failed to present himself to give a statement.
According to the Sports Corruption Prevention Unit, investigations have revealed that the suspect had engaged in discussions related to match-fixing at a leading hotel, allegedly with the knowledge of the team’s owner, Tamim Rahman.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate issued the arrest warrant and directed that an update on the progress of the investigation be submitted to court on December 5.
