In a landmark move for the country’s pharmaceutical sector, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health has introduced price controls on 350 varieties of medicines, marking the first time such a large number has been regulated simultaneously.
Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that this decision represents a major transformation in the nation’s medical supply system. He noted that as a result of the new price regulations, the cost of a wide range of medicines in the local market will be significantly reduced, offering relief to consumers.
The ministry is also evaluating the possibility of imposing price controls on an additional 200 medicinal products in the near future.
