Navy seizes suspected drug-carrying fishing vessel off southern coast

A multi-day fishing vessel suspected of smuggling narcotics was intercepted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the southern seas today (20) and later brought to the Tangalle Fisheries Harbour, along with six local fishermen who were on board at the time of the operation.

According to police, the vessel was stopped during a joint intelligence-based operation carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).

Security officials confirmed that 15 packages were discovered on the vessel, containing approximately 300 kilograms of heroin and 100 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ice).

The suspects and the seized contraband have been handed over to authorities for further investigation.
